So, thought I would report back on what I did and what I think of it. I
bought a Gigaset 610 IP and an extra handset (the 610 can handle two
simultaneous VoIP calls) mainly because they were much cheaper than the
Snom units. I like that the base unit is separate from the handset chargers

I recently had an issue with one-way audio in an environment where I had a
remote phone connecting via a VPN. Using the option directmedia=no for my
extensions in sip.conf resolved the issue. Not sure if you are experiencing the
same problem, but this fix is easy to test.
