Ok,
I move the two missing functions to the ath5k code (temporary )
ieee80211_channel_to_frequency()
compat_is_pcie()
So now I can insmod without any issues, the problem is when I have the
wireless device:
lspci
00:02.0 Class 0200: Unknown device 168c:001b (rev 01) Atheros
I get the following
Ok sorry, my mistake,
It is building for MIPS for sure, the file command confirm, it was just
missing symbols:
ath5k: Unknown symbol compat_is_pcie
ath5k: Unknown symbol ieee80211_frequency_to_channel
I am investigating right now.

You need to set ARCH and CROSS_COMPILE, as described in the top-level
Makefile of the Linux kernel, e.g.:
make

Dear Nick,
I try to download :
http://wireless.kernel.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2
And after some issues with __una_u64 redefine I manage to compile it
successfully (need to #if 0 it in unalligned.h)
I choose to make it where it point to the kernel I use

Yup, you can use compat-wireless package from wireless.kernel.org ;-)
It includes all mac80211 and driver related updates (it's synced to
the latest wireless-testing as far as i know)...

To work with AP mode, a patch to enable AP mode in mac80211 needs to be
applied. See

Dear All,
Our company ( LinoWave) build APs, and we can provide our boards to
support some of the developers,(MIPS,Mem,Flash,USB,2X Serial, 32 GPIO,2
MiniPCI,5 Ethernet,POE,...) We have few Atheros MiniPCI cards but we did
not select one yet.
Nick I can work on the AP mode, since we need it bad
