Yes, that's correct and indeed that's why shell escape is usually

Hi list,
in AUCTeX there isn't an easy&flexible way to pass arbitrary options
to the TeX processor. The most wanted option probably is
`-shell-escape'. Another useful option can be `-fmt ',
to select a format file, because in AUCTeX first line parsing is de
facto disabled.

Hi all,
the `reftex-reference' function ignores the selected reference format
(if `reftex-ref-macro-prompt' is non-nil) when one choses an equation
key.
For example, consider the following code

Hi list,
yesterday I pushed to the AUCTeX repository some new style files,
including fontspec.el. I'd like to add completion for font names in
this style file to help XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX users selecting their
fonts. I've found a couple of ways to get the list of font:
a. read the database file;
(STYLESRC): Activate new styles.
* style/fontspec.el: New style.
* style/luacode.el: Ditto.
* style/metalogo.el: Ditto.
* style/unicode-math.el: Ditto.
