Thanks for correcting me about the Braille touch being a certified tablet. Both Humanware and Hims have made their own interface which should work, no matter what version of Android there is installed on the device. Both companies have made a

Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
But here's the thing. With a braille and speech device, particularly one that needs braille and speech constantly, one that needs trusted braille support that doesn't break, the cutting edge code isn't always good. Look at the ups an
Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
Braille Note Touch don't seem to have been official certified by Google. Because of this, and because of the long time of development, they haven't upgraded the Android system on the device yet. I'm not sure if they are able to
Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
Well, the braille note touch is currently $300.00 cheeper, but it is running kitKat. It looks like it is the going price based on the braille note touch and the braille sense. I am a bit of a listener of the security now podcast. if that podcast is
Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
Well, just get a tablet then, and hook up a Braille display to it. Braille on Android with Talkback suck...Regarding upgrading, they'll upgrade the Android version later on. It's not as bad as the Braillenote touch which is running Android 4.
Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
@CW, wowww, that thing is eccessively overpriced, and it doesn't justify its price, whatever technology is being used on the device. Surely it is a Braille Display, but with those specifications, the tablet wouldn't cost more than 500 doll

Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I know Android is designed for tablets and phones, but you can buy laptops with Android. Or, are those just big tablets with a keyboard? I haven't checked out all the apps for Android because there are so many, but it
Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
SLJ, I do not think that you can use the Linux terminal on this device, or at least it is not included as far as I can tell. You got to remember that Android was designed for tablits and phones. This is not to say that it is not based off of linux

Re: Hims Polaris: Android as a laptop
The price is different depending on your local dealer. So you need to contact Hims directly, or contact your local dealer to get the exact price in your country. You can read much more about the device at the following link:https://hims-inc.com/braille
