Is it classical music, jazz, pop on piano - if you can pin it down a bit
more it will be easier

I am convined as I have tried it!
My SB3 feeds through a $100,000 hi-fi system and the move to a linear
PSU was very revealing. Made a significant change to the sound (for the
better) and continued to improve as the PSU 'burned in' (and no, I did't
want to believe it either). Standard supply

It certainly much subtler than the Gould versions...
It's merely interpretation so who is to say which is best.

Very true, I should try revisiting it, I have the SACD version.

Adding a filtered power strip (it's the only unit on that strip) to
isolate the SBs power supply from the rest of the system gave a
remarkable improvement
Which filtered power stip was it? I know there are some DIY plans out
there, and some audiophile versions that cost more
I'm cheap so I simply plugged in the SB's power supply to a different
outlet. The other equipment is connected to a cheap filtered AC surge
supressor strip. I figured this way, any possible switching artifacts
would not enter the rest of the system :-)

Its fairly old now. Einstein Octupus or similar.. (eight outlets)
I just had it laying around. I would probably spend the money on a
The same DAC is available through GR Research.

Thanks for the link. I am thinking about going with GR research since
they seem more professional, at least the webpage presentation. They
also ship by air directly from the factory, so the product is probably
the latest.

Hi fellas,
Saw one of these for sale.
Are these DACs any good?
I wonder if the sonic improvement would be subtle or significant.
Best,

Hmmm...I just saw one on Audiogon. If that's the one you're talking
about, you better get it before I do :) Seriously, though, I think
those are supposed to be pretty nice. The only caveat is that the
output voltage is rather high (7 V) on the stock unit, although from
the description, I think
hehehe yeah that's the one!
I also read about the highish output. I hope it's modded to reduce it
to the 2 volt standard...
The cosmetics are nothing to write home about. The chinese DAC-60 wins
in the looks department. Still, at half the price it's mighty
tempting!

Apparently the Digital Dialogue has been superceded by a MKII
version making this one obsolete according to the guy in Taiwan who
builds them.
