Frankly I think you really need to spend more like USD2000 for a DAC to
better the modded SB2, amazing as that sounds.I guess that is the magic
number? :)
FWIW, Dan Lavry says that the Lavry Black sounds about the same as the
Lavry Blue. ;)

If i am informed right and measured on my little experience you can hear
20kHz when you are 6 years old. When you are lucky you can hold it for a
while but at 36, 18kHz even would be very good.
In my mid-twenties I could sense rather than actually hear the FM
pilot at 19kHz
On Hydrogenaudio there was a thread about HF hearing also:

Most interesing is to read from Pio2001 post on page 2. In the end the
test is flawed.
Another interesting one:

Hi
How does the Lavry and DAC-AH (and others around that price range)
compare to something like the Bel Canto Dac2?
Im looking for a dac that can smooth out some of the High frequencies I
am experiencing with the SB3. The bel Canto was pretty smooth in my
system previously but now with the SB3
The Lavry is quite smooth, yet detailed and resolving.
I haven't heard the DAC-AH, but it is a NOS design I believe and they
sound quite a bit different I hear.

I did a careful A/B comparison of the DAC AH and the SB3 internal DAC,
using a pre-amp with an input selector. Unfortunately the volume
levels were slightly
Actually, I have it on pretty good authority (an MD), and there is
information out there to back this up, that the average (average) 40
year old male tops off at around 14khz. That's assuming no lifetime of
regular rock concerts and airport tarmacs. By age fifty, that number is
cut in half --

Dear Abby,
High freq hearing can be helped a lot by keeping the ears clean. They
make more wax the older you get. After a few years of not cleaning, the
wax hardens and gets stuck in there. Wax reduces hearing sensitivity,
especially highs.
Disgusting

Hiya,
Have heard good things about these things, and just wondered if you
have ever heard or owned one. I'm thinking maybe use it as a dac for
the SB to.
Any thoughts?
Cheers :)

Hello all, this is my first post here, I mostly hang out on the Audio
Asylum. I recently aquired a SB3 and have started using it in some
unusual ways.
I've been building my own DACs for a couple years now and have really
gotten to dislike S/PDIF with a pasion, which why I've been doing USB
