For my primary system, though, I don't want to have to worry about

cost of a Transporter.

Guy's, how are you getting the 24/96 tracks off your DVD-A's?
I tried smartripper (demuxed and all) and it seems to create a bogus

script. But I haver not had any luck with the 24/96 stuff. Couple
When I first got my Transporter, I briefly reported my initial
impressions. I've had it for about a month now, and thought I would
report how I feel about it. These comparisons are between the analogue
outputs of both Transporter and SB2, both connected directly to the
power amps of a pair
I am seriously tempted to buy a Transporter...but I am having so much
fun with the stock SB3 I can't really justify it.
My system is Bryston 4b SST and JBL 250Ti's, so it is more than capable
of taking the SB3 apart if it wasn't up to scratch. The SB3 really does
punch above it's weight. It
I would think if the input level is only 1.0v you'd be a little too hot.
The input level on my amp is 1.5v, which I also thought would be a
little hot matched up with the 3.0v of the Transporter. With the
volume muted I proceeded with caution and hooked up the TP to the
balanced inputs. Guess
I also have a 4B SST and just run my stock SB3 into the RCA inputs.
With my speaker/room combo, running the Bryston gain setting at 2V
gives me a perfect max listening level. Also, I view it as a safety
factor for my speakers should the SB go AWOL and max out at full scale
volume. That 6dB
Excuse my ignorance, and I suppose it is ignorance, but what is the
difference between running ethernet to the Squeezebox and USB to a DAC?
If that DAC deals with jitter, isn't that the end of the story? Some
high-end manufacturers, like Bel Canto, are offering DACs with USB
capability.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.
Most DVD-A's have MLP 2 Channel 24/192 or 5.1 24/96 on the DVD-A
side. They also often have DTS 5.1 and 24/96 LPCM on the DVD-V side. I
have no problem getting the DTS/AC3 stuff off. But a few DVD-A's that
are strictly 2 channel (i.e. 2 channel MLP 24/192 on
There's always a wrinkle. I'll call Apple technical support and ask
them about the sound card today. I'll call Bel Canto, too, since they
support USB, and ask their take on it. Of course they will have a bias
toward their product, sure, but I've owned their products and spoken
with them many
Is anyone using the SB3 with a Cyrus DAC X? I found a post on here
indicating that it does not work, but have also seen some posts with
setups that seem to include it.
Am awaiting delivery of a new Cyrus 8vs amp and am not (yet) conviced
the SB3's on-board DAC will quite live up to the demo
Using those tools I got the 2-channel 24/96 feed off my one and only

Unfortunately support from the labels has been poor, so I'm still

I'm not saying this is great or for everyone; it's just a solution that
fits my needs, seems reasonable, and that I look forward to
implementing. I can completely understand someone not wanting to do
things this way. And, yes, using iTunes means standing up, walking
across the room, and typing
Actually, the USB thing is now a non-issue; I figured this out just
going through my computer's specs while on hold with tech support.
The iMac, like the Airport Express, has a S/PDIF output via the sound
mini plug. That makes things easy and no sound card is involved --
just digital out, via a
Yes it will work, but is completely off-topic.
Audiophile preference generally evolves from airport express TO
Squeezebox, not vice versa.

See my system description in another thread -- it easily qualifies as
audiophile and frankly quite high-end at that.
I was motivated to buy into the Squeezebox after reading about it. I
bought one. However, it has drawbacks:

yeah, sorry about that - forgot all this stuff was single-rail. i just

of bypassing the output
Here's the thing: I personally know two Transporter users (both friends
and not on this forum) who have intractable drop-out problems. I have
had drop-out problems and have tried everything in the book to fix them
-- and nothing has worked. Therefore, I am commited to a wired
solution.

FWIW I do agree, one dropout would be one too many. Not
Cool!
By the way, I have tried parking a base station a few inches from the
Squeezebox, but with no improvement in performance. Go figure.
Really, Slim Devices should discuss these caveats more openly, fully,
and upfront on their Web site. Going wireless is not as carefree as
they make it

Just for your information,
I have been using Grado SR-125's since they first came over to the UK
and they are still one of the best sound headphones I have ever heard.
Also, they are quite a lot better than the SR60 and SR80's so you might

Why not just get a mains-based system such as homeplug? Looks like the

I don't know if I'm just being stupid? But it dont work for me. Encoding
and tagging based on filename works fine. But I have 2 issues:
1. Adding multiple albums. With 250 albums to encode it would be nice
to drag and drop the entire file tree to flac. I can only drag album
folders one by one.
Sheesh, for that price, it is certainly worth experimenting. I'll look
into it, definitely! Even going with the computer for my main system
I'd still like a second system in the bedroom -- and I'm not buying two
computers.

sure, put the caps back in? how did you remove them, did you cut them,
