I fear that the future is not at all bright for the Transporter, which
is a crying shame, because it's a *stunning* piece of kit.
Well being as there is a sale on for Squeezeboxes, I would expect them
to also become Logitech branded as well come June 1st when the sale

This really is a huge mistake, marketing-wise. The audiophile community
just isn't going to believe that a box with a Logitech badge can
possibly be high-end. Yes, it's irrational snobbery, but it's the way
the marketplace works. I fear that the future is not at all

Which would be the best one of her albums to get, do you think? I know
next to nothing about jazz, but they seemed quite good when I played the
samples on the Linn website.
Second (or third) the suggestion for FLAC. FLAC (as a lossless
compressed format) can really be the common denominator for all
lossless formats (except today for proprietary Apple Lossless, but it's
heavily rumored that FLAC will be natively supported with the Leopard OS

Actually the release notes for firmware 81 says that bug 4712 -88.2kHz
sample rate content plays at half speed- is fixed, but the bug entry is

81) on the SB3, correct?
Has anyone tried them on the TP? I am not home right now but I think
the latest TP FW is 31.

Several people asked me to report on this, so here goes.
I went over to PhilNYC's today along with a friend and auditioned a
transporter, as well as a number of other sources and DACs. Most of the
listening was done through Phil's main system, the details of which you
can find on this forum or
Thanks for your excellent report!
Your findings are exactly what I have been suspecting for some time
now. There isn't really any significant difference between SB3 and TP,
specially when driving an external DAC (using conventional SPDIF).
Now, it would be interesting to compare a SB3 driving

I have tried the latest Claire Martin album on the TP and get a
slightly strange burbling sound at the very beginning of playing a
track, as if the TP is sorting itself out to
Thanks for taking the time to write this up. It's certainly in line
with my experience with digital audio sources. While you sometimes
catch a lot of flack (flac? :) ) around here for your objectivist

complete agreement).
