I just picked up this months issue of The Absolute Sound, and there are
some interesting articles on network music servers in it.
Unfortunately, no discussion of the Slim Devices, but some pretty bold

such as, and I quote:
We use Sencore test gear for all of our digital post-production suites.

I am always surprised by how interpretive these forums are.
Of course Slim Devices and its technologies have evolved -
brilliantly!
The issue is that the overall digital audio ecosystem has evolved more
rapidly - look at all the codecs on different platforms and different
sample types. As you
I had posted in this Forum a while ago about my concerns with Slim
devices, including the Transporter.
IMHO, the slimserver/TP platform is remarkably open compared to most
consumer products. To meet my requirements, I have changed the web and
devices interfaces/menus (CustomBrowse), used my
Erm - thanks Sean!
I'm bidding on a Tektronix 2225 at the moment - it's an older model but
probably OK for what I need.
I'd love to spring $13k for a jitter analyser...but I think my wife
might object (especially as she wants to go to NY in the spring for our

Cheers and thanks
It's a start, but they have to move slowly because just like
politicians, it would be stupid to tell the truth that We don't really

Now I'm not trying to be confrontational here, but do people really use
DACs as tone controls? Really?
Isn't that like using a wrench to hammer a nail? Are people afraid of
tone controls in preamps that much?
I know that tone controls in preamps (and indeed, preamps

I am not sure why opinions about audibility are material to any of this
discussion - any more than the quality of your speakers.
If you happen to have the media then you want a player that supports
the media. Yes, no?
I do have some of this media! My point was
By all means keep it balanced all the way to your amp, and use a 'Jensen
PC-2XR' (http://www.jensentransformers.com/pc2xr.html) between your
preamp and amp.
