Thanks a lot. Yes my 2nd question is a bit complicated, but my first
question is straightforward: is the digital outputs of the SB3 the same
as that of the Transporter?

I have compared both, sent directly to a set of meridian DSP5500
speakers and via a Z-sys RDP-1 digital pre/parametric and cannot tell
the 2 apart in the digital domain, I would get a SB3 + offboard DAC for
maximum flexibility. I was very dissapointed in the the TP's analog
output. I was not able
OK. Good to know. And thanks for the advice on how much I should rely
on Stereophile reviews. I fully understand that it's my ear and my
brain to judge and there are many factors (other gears, how the CD was
mastered, the room, my mood...) to be considered.
Sean, could you clarify whether
I use my Denon's 3808 internal dac. It's pretty decent (it has the same
quality as most sub-1000$ dacs) and it simplifies my installation. If
one day I feel the need of upgrading, I'll need to get a 2-3000$ dac.
It's pretty difficult to advice you on a dac without knowing the rest
of your
I went with the simple route, and got the Transporter. :-)

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it

If you are into a bit of DIY I think you are more likely to find the
sound you like by buying something like (but not necessarily) the
DacKit and tweaking it.

I prefer DACs with a USB input, makes any PC a good source:

I think Logitech could sell a boat load of these. Many many folks have

It was really dependent on the gap in the poles of the record head.
Smaller gap gave you more hi-freq. It really varied from

I'm using the DAC in a Behringer DEQ2496 auto-equalizer. I'm also first
upsampling the 16/44 signal from the SB3 to 24/96 with a Behringer
SRC2496, then sending it to the DEQ2496 via an optical cable . This
combination seems to produce surprisingly good sound. The AKM AK4393
