Very nice indeed! The last 4 bits are discarded. I have found the HDCD
sound through the Transporter to be very satisfying when compared to the
16 bit. Ex. Dire Straits hits album in HDCD vs. Brothers in Arms in 16
bit.

I think it is useful to focus on what it is you are torn about. Once
I took an honest look at what I was looking for next in the sound of my
system it became much easier.
For me - I was unhappy with my systems lack of realism. That being

I don't know for sure, but I think its even more general than that. Sony
pressed hard for DSD and it did not get much traction in the industry.

to today, trying to savor the incredible sound it provided (Channel
Classics, pure DSD) with flashing
...C 13 00 disc errors...
This thing was in the shop twice for the same problem.

I'd also consider active speakers. Personally I think it is the way of
the future - an built-in amp that is utterly optimized to drive the
speakers. The results are pretty amazing with several monitor style
speakers - provided you like a very accurate delivery (with the
occasional drawbacks).
