Intuitively, I thought that higher voltage means better noise

For analogue audio signals, higher voltage levels usually (but now
always) result in better signal-noise ratio. However the problem with
digital signals is that they are RF square waves (nothing

BTW, is there transformer coupled output of AES/EBU in Transporter,
right?
I was told that transformer makes the cable less relevant..or I was
misinformed?
Transformers block DC between boxes, thus getting rid of low frequency
ground loops. This can significantly

The Genesis took the system to a very high level. The SB3 straight to
the Gen Va was merely good instead of great :)

Just for a bit of historical perspective, the AES/EBU spec was designed
so that digital audio could be handled in a studio environment just as
if it was analogue. So not just mic cables, but patch panels and
permanent wiring could all cary the 'new' digital audio. This really
mattered if you

Ta very much to all of you for suggestions.
Basically shortlist will be PMC and Dynaudio - which is the same list I
had when I got the FB!'s.

More Info menu on my Touch shows as 2326 VBR converted to 1411kbps
My understanding was that redbook CD was 1411kbps..so I would have
expected a higher bitrate?
Is it my settings maybe..is there downsampling going on?

Is there a software utility that will identify the streaming file, which
can then be manually entered into Squeezebox?

Hi Phil..
I'm decoding my Flac files on my server (as opposed to on the Touch
natively) to reduce the load on the Touch CPU (See Software mods for
the Touch..)
Have I set up Squeezebox server wrong for this?
(I had assumed I had the server doftware set up for best audio
quality?)
The files are

Thanks to all for the replies - lots of different options being used.
I started the thread to get alternate ideas.
I finally bit the bullet and went with a Linn Majik DS. It does both
the digital streaming and the DAC. The FLAC files get streamed
directly to it from my NAS via ethernet cable,

There is no element of personal attack in my response.
Oh, I don't know. I quite like the turquoise with little red banded
flashes.
I might get one. My current cable is just beige.
