- With upsampled content you do not see signals above base frequency, do
you?
- This is 96/24 PCM stereo mix of this disc:

At least with upsampling as I know it..
Maybe it is some reconstruction mechanism? Then why?

i'm experimenting with running the digital out from my Transporter to a
Meridian 561 pre/pro. thus far, using Trifield, the sound is
different as opposed to better than the Transporter analog out.
however, the 561 is limited to 24/48 input, and i have a few 24/88 and
24/96 files i'd like to

You could probably use SoX to force transcode down the tracks.
that would affect analog out as well, correct? i'd like to leave
analog out alone.
in any case, and relative to the Beatles thread, how do you accomplish
this w/ SOX (assuming i wanted to either downsample,
I have a pair of Genelec 8020's. They are bi-amped, shielded, have
balanced inputs and have volume control on the front. I love the sound
from these speakers. On more than one occasion visitors have remarked
on the sound quality. I drive them directly from an SB3.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my explanation. It is not that the signal
increases; it stays the same. What's happening is that the noise
decreases, resulting in the overall impression that the signal is now
clearer, as if it had increased and became louder (even

How exactly is changing digital sources going to affect the noise floor?
The digital source isn't in the analog chain. Any noise in the digital
signal itself can only manifest as jitter, not as analog noise.
The only way I can see a different digital source could
Both analog and digital out uses the same stream from the server, so
it's neither or both.
Besides no squeezebox has the cpu power to transcode. therefore it's
done on the server, your ide would require it to be done in the
transporter.

A quick follow-up on this...
the 24-bit and 16-bit released versions are definitely the same master.
Diffmaker shows a 0 (ZERO!) sample rate offset which is only possible if
the samples are the same - any remastering or EQ except for level
changes / addition of dither would generate significant

Again, you misunderstood me. By 'noise' I didn't mean audible noise, I

Now I'm really confused. When you said Exact same thing is happening

DACs do make a difference and in many cases are far superior to

Go for reputation. Squeezebox stuff is known for getting the bits to the
DAC. You have to go from there. I would trust Squeezebox with my bits
