I have been thinking along the same line as you and decided to go for a
solution with PI-Squeezeplug/SqueezeLite + NuForce uDAC 2

3. Last year we replaced the old Leather Sofa and armchairs in the
livingroom. Now we have a large soft cushion sofa, two armchairs and a
footrest. THIS actually had a noticeable effect on the sound!

up... Make sure to top it off with the
icing on the cake and remove 6 points of dynamics, smoothness and 3d
feeling... You would end up with mono style cassette recorder sound
from a broken speaker!
I am sure everyone agrees, it does sou
o and I save considerable time per LP with it... Not the
least since I don't need to be present while recording, it starts and
stops on needle down/up...

In the end, since most patch cables people use are Unshielded, the
connection is broken anyway. Thus we end up only with the in wall cable
between the patch panel and the connector at the listening location
being shielded, no problem with that either!
