I'm no expert, bu
The Lavry DA10 and DA11 are well worth considering. A step up in SQ from
the similarily priced Benchmarks in my experience.

Why do you use a preamp at all? I too am using am SB3 + Lavry DA10 and
all the preamps I've tried give me a poorer result than having the DA10
feed the power amp directly. I use the DA10's volume control so that the
SB3's volum

In addition to the Cambridge, I suggest you give the Rotel RA-04 a

Thanks, that is interesting.

Btw, as the theme of this thread is redwine audio's SB upgrades
specifically, I should add that RWA does *not* make use of any bybee

You are correct regarding the connections.
As to which DAC sounds best, you'll just have to listen and judge for
yourselves.

no complaints about the sound quality of
my stock SB3. To my ears, and in my setup, it outperforms my
Redbook-only Pioneer CD-player which cost more than 2x of what the SB3
does.

hought of it that way.
One could argue, though, that at 10 cents, ANY improvement would be
cost-effective.
Actual measurements of K vs KE would have been interesting, but I
suppose that is too much to ask of the modders. ;-)

only 10 cents. So, if the "KE"
makes sense, why doesn't Slim Devices use that in the first place?
