undeniably true, that if you're comparing a transporter set to -40dB gain, vs. a transporter set to no gain followed by a 40dB pad (that passive preamp), and all else being equal -- the passive preamp (a.k.a. potentiometer) will perform better. But all else is probably not equal. -- ccrome2 Caleb
