In addition to auto-sensing the amplifier will also have to be powerful enough to drive your speakers, and be within your budget. Three inexpensive options are the Audiosource Amp100, Audiosource Amp200, and the Parasound Zamp v3. I have the Audiosource Amp100 driving two pairs of Polk Audio

I'd also consider active speakers. Personally I think it is the way of the future - an built-in amp that is utterly optimized to drive the speakers. The results are pretty amazing with several monitor style speakers - provided you like a very accurate delivery (with the occasional drawbacks).
