Just guesses, but maybe you could try toggling the 'digital output always on' setting in Player SettingsAudio, or transcoding one of the offending files to FLAC for comparison. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile:

When I was using the optical out connection into my ROTEL pre/pro there was a 'crack' or a 'pop' between tracks. Using this connection had a better sound than the analog out of the SB, but not as good as the DAC in the ADCOM CD player (HDCD!), so I didn't pursue it, and no longer use the optical

I tried a bunch of tests, with unmodified SB3, with a different DAC, with the clock off on the DAC and could not reproduce the problem. Unfortunately (fortunately?), I have been unable to reproduce it with my orignal setup either. It was not as dependable as I thought. I guess I'm out of options

I made some changes to my DAC\Squeezebox recently - I now have synchronous reclocking between the two. In general, this works well and I'm very pleased with the results. However, with rips from some older CDs I'm hearing crackling or static noise between the tracks. It's consistently there for

WRT to the reclocking, I replaced the crystal with an XO3 clock from tentlabs. This clock is connected to another clock (XO-DAC)on the DAC. The tentlink connection keeps both clocks in sync. The crackling appears after one tracks ends and before the next begins. Usually, it will happen also on

My best guess would be that your clocks still aren't in sync... have you compared the two clocks on a scope? It will be really obvious - if they're not in sync, then one channel will show a steady waveform and then other will be blurred or dancing all over the place. That would certainly be

I don't have a scope but plan to get one fairly soon so can try then. I doubt that the music is masking unsynched clocks. The auido quality is the best I have ever heard. And it is only with particular CDs (and very much a minority) that I hear the problem. I do have an unmodified Squeezebox,
