i just got my transporter yesterday. its very accurate, and i am coming
from an all-linn system! i never thought my linn cd player would sound
warm!
i have heard there are software tube emulation applications- does
anyone know of a way to play a flac through one of these? would be fun
to try.
Ok! - all that was said above is valid - get a working copy and then we
can talk!
- beyond that - you have to burn the unit in! - The Transporter is on
the clinical side of things sound wise! - it mellows with time. I can
dig how you can get turned off on the first few listens - I returned a
Instead of adding another unit to the transporter you could also get it
modded by Modwright. He completely redesigns the output stage and power
supply (latest iteration is the Platinum Mod). As the 6moons review of
the Modwright Transporter mentioned, the modded unit is on par with the

A Paradisea 3 with WE396A sounds warm enough for me.

Mmm, tubes (I'm from the tube era). I'm pretty happy with the TP,
but a bit more warmth would always make me happier. I might give it a
listen.
Thanks,

As for warming things up .. a 2m length of Cardas Lightning 15 digi
cable did the trick for me.
Ah, I've got an old Classe 5 pre-amp. Do digital inputs, but I did buy
a nice Kimber

I used to own a Classe DR6. It was a darker sounding pre on it's own.
Point being cabling can add warmth and act as a tone control to tailor
sound to your liking. Regular old Cardas Hexlink IC's sound warmest
straight out of my transporter.
Zactly what I got, but

Just curious!

All I would ask is whether it's fair to judge the TP based on what is
obviously a faulty unit?

I'm not sure, but I think so. In between glitches, the sound seemed
o.k.. I can't imagine it would be degraded while it was playing. It
isn't a problem with the analog part

Make sure both are level balanced. Close is not good enough for a valid

By level balanced you mean db levels with a sp meter, correct?

Right, it was early and I should have said level matched. I send a 3K
test tone from each source and measure the voltage at the speaker
terminals.
