I want a SB to replace my CD-player, but can the SB3 compete soundwise
with your typical 1000$ CD-player when it comes down to sheer sound
quality? How is the depth and width of the soundstage? Can I really
enjoy acoustic music and rock music without listening to the hiss of
sibilants and flat

No, but I can sense that I should be anxious now? :)
Well, I don`t think my setup is that good, but it is good enough to
sense if a source is good or not, and

Can't wait till the show starts [unfold chair, sit down and rub
hands]...:-)

PS: To answer your actual question, before the food fight starts... IMO
the SB3 sounds good, but if you
oooh - he did it again - three-dimensional soundstage...
You'll need some three-dimensional recordings first :o)

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

I`m not from US so the promotion is not for me. But I can get a Logitech
SB3 for a reasonable cost here, so the price isn`t a problem, I just
don`t want to invest the money if it isn`t that good.
I`m sorry if I went over the top with the hifi-babble, but I know that
in a good setup you can hear
There are some great DACs for 700.00, used Bencmarks for about the same,
Lavry. PS digi link3 etc. at 1,000
So for between 1,000 and 1300 you can get fantastic sound with an SB3
that rivals multi tousand set ups.
The SB3 alone is no slouch either. IMO you cant go wrong starting with
the SB3

Ok, because that`s my plan - get a SB3 and then when my finances are in
place again I will probably get a good DAC such as the Benchmark DAC-1.
Nice to hear the SB3 is really good then, because as I said, I`m
picky...

Good to hear - right now I am in a bit of a tight spot financially but
it will improve and then a DAC is my way it looks. But what affordable
DACs are best? Is Benchmark the one and only? Some people say it can
sound a bit cold, is that correct?

I don't think you will be disappointed when using an SB3 as your source.
It sounds very good indeed, in my opinion.
