They might have attenuators fitted?

I had this problem with the interconnects too, and then I realized I'd
plugged them in the wrong way around. Electrons were not going in the
direction of the arrows on the cables. Dumb or what ;)

ROFL! On my system the electrons get confused by the arrows and go

I always loved the idea of those arrows, especially

In that case, I would contact SD technical support.
It's possible you have an impedance mismatch - check the input
impedance on the amplifier.

Thanks, but I've tried this on three amplifiers now, with the same
results. It's not possible they all have an impedance

When I set the Transporter volume setting anywhere close to its maximum,
the vu meters start moving into the overload zone, and the signal

Thanks for any help you can provide.
The VU meters are a visual affect, and are not designed

To answer your questions, the two amps I am referring to are integrated
amps, including both a preamplifier and amplifier section. I have the
transporter connected directly via analog inputs.

You should be able to run the transporter set to max volume. This
should then provide a similar output level to that of a standard cd
player.
Things to check - you are going from rca outputs on the transporter to
rca inputs on your amp. Or balanced output to balanced input. Not rca
- balanced
Quick questions...what integrated amps are you using, and at what volume
level do you have the volume knob set to?

You're saying you hear the signal becoming distorted when you turn the
TP volume up close to max? Does that happen no matter what is the
volume setting on your integrated amp?

Just to be clear about what you are doing, how are you connecting the
output of the Transporter to your headphone amp, and how are you
setting the volume on the Transporter?
You are correct that the attenuators inside the transporter can only be
used to further reduce the signal level coming out

It is generally accepted that you should be running the Transporter at
or close to its maximum volume setting (i.e. 0dB) so as to avoid any
potential downgrading of the signal quality, although this is only
reckoned to be a factor if you run the TP at or below about
