These are similar how Meridian speakers are setup. However they are missing a means of controlling the gain on the preamp with in them. You'll have to use digital attenuation which is not good on the digial inputs. And I suspect the analog inputs may have A to D converters on them. With

Probably the price comes from the fact that they're considered as studio monitors, given the claimed ±1.5 dB, 58 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. (also because of the XLR digital/analog inputs and the claimed HQ dac) -- Themis SB3 - North Star dac 192 - Denon 3808 - Sonus Faber Grand Piano
