Thanks Patrick. I'm going to stay away from the preamp volume control
for now, until I can find additional information that it's done right
in the manner of the regular SB3 volume control.

In the SB3 both the regular volume control and the preamp level are done
in the digital domain. The regular is done in the processor under
control of the firmware and the preamp level is done using the
attenuator in the DAC chip itself. I'm not sure how that is split up in
the transporter.

As far as I understand there is absolutely no analog attenuation in the
squeezebox. The transporter has jumpers for analog attenuation.
