So now the question is...does it sound different now that you've
changed where the decoding happens? :-)

I'm not even going to pretend to be able to tell. I'm temporarily

No. The slimserver can pick out each individual track and effectively
Actually just fixed my WIFI issues as well. Found a little FW hack
after much searching and was able to boost the output power of my WAP.
Now getting 96% signal strength on my TP vs. before it was only 55-65%.
I can now adjust my WAP from 22mW (default) up to 84mW. Only using 55
mW since it
So in my case (sorry for hijacking for a couple of posts) FF and RW
won't work anyway (cuz my flac files are not individualized), so my
choice is simple: leave the transcoding to flac-flac and relieve the
network, since changing to flac-wav has NO benefits in my setup, and a
downside being

Thanks. I have a very resolving system (Modwright pre, Moscode 401HR
amp, Sason speakers) so once I have the TP and ehernet set up I'll test
it (server vs player decode) and chime back in with my $.02. Thanks for
all the quick and detailed help on this forum.

As an aside for anyone else using a ReadyNAS to run SS:Switching the
setup has improved my iometer results as well. SS decode vs. TP must
unload the NV processor. No more music dropouts, quicker SS response,
and quicker data access/backup, nice! Lesson learned.

Fwd and rwd should work with FLAC, as long as you are streaming FLAC to
your Transporter/Squeezebox (rather than decoding FLAC to WAV in
Slimserver)...
I think fwd/rwd should work with any format that is natively decoded in
the Transporter/Squeezebox

FF and RW are a little confusing (at least they were to me). Press and
hold the FF button for a few seconds. When you release it, the song
will begin to FF and continue until you hit PLAY (I think), and then it
will go back to normal speed. It's not like other FF buttons that you
hold down
No, it's not the most intuitive implementation of fast forward and fast
rewind. Kyle is correct, but I also think that the longer you hold it
down the faster it's supposed to forward (or rewind).
As usual, I may be wrong (and frequently am).

You press-and-hold FF or REW to fast-forward or rewind. Once it's
seeking, press it again momentarily to change the speed. It will go
from 2X to 4X to 8X to 16X, etc.
To resume play, press PLAY.

PhilNYC is right on this. If your flac file contains more than one
track (i.e. the flac file contains a cuesheet) then your flac gets
transcoded flac to flac by slimserver and intra-track FF RW is
not supported.

My songs are all individual FLAC files ripped using EAC~Secure
w/accuraterip plugin. The tracks from each individual CD are ripped,
transcoded and tagged, then put into it's own folder (foder names=CD
titles). I'm not using cue sheets at all. Each track is a separate
FLAC file.
I have SS
You have FLAC/FLAC disabled for some reason, so it's transcoding to WAV,
hence no FF/REW. Re-enable FLAC/FLAC and it should be fine.

It == slimserver. The player doesn't really transcode per se, it
decodes to raw samples and sticks them through the
