I'm also a head-fi sicko (in training - been there less than a year), and I'll second the recommendation of getting a set of Grados. Definitely try them out. Granted, the Grado sound isn't for everyone, but you owe it to yourself to hear them. I own the RS-1s, but I'm sure their less expensive

I'll cast another vote for Sennheiser. I love my HD-580's, but I'm sure I'd like the 600's or 650's just as much. Hmm, looks like my 580's just turned 9 years old. Maybe it's time to upgrade. :-) I bought Grado SR60's based on many recommendations, but I don't like them. Maybe the more

I'd go for the Sennheiser 650's (but Stax are better - at a price) I'd urge you not to use IEM's for long monitoring sessions - they really aren't designed for that and you need to give your ears lots of rest to avoid fatigue (and progressive hearing loss) P. -- Phil Leigh

I have Shure E4-C's for portable use, and a pair of (refurbed) Senn HD-600's for home use. I just want to make the point that they're two completely different beasts. If I could only keep one pair I'd keep the Sennheisers. In fact when I go camping, I actually take my pair of old Sony
