My server is a Linux box. Yes it does the decoding on the fly. I installed mplayer on it to decode the Apple Lossless AAC files. And instructed the slimserver software to basically decode all Apple AAC and Apple lossless using mplayer and then send them as FLAC. If you need technical help on how

I decode my lossless apple aac files into flac on the server and send them down to the SB3 as a Flac stream. Reason I use AAC is so I can use them in Itune and also have Itune as my ripper. Convenient and quick organisation. Server is a dedicated Unix box (P2 400mhz with 320MB Ram) - Never used
