It's not just the sharper edges that are the difference; the driver
impedance is better matched to 75R which reduces reflections across the
cable. The improvements to clock and PSU reduce jitter, and the overall
result is that the system sounds much better: and after all, that's the
primary goal.
Please note the sharper s/pdif edges may increase EMI output - they're
filtered for a reason. If you want them sharper just jump across L5. I
wouldn't recommend this because it doesn't reduce jitter, nor would I
expect it to improve any DAC's ability to lock onto the signal. It just
increases the

Patrick,
That's cool (i.e the mods and design), and yes I did not realize it was
your site. The more mods the better as far as I'm concerned - anything
in the interest of better sound is all right by me. Thanks for posting
the oscilloscope output. (...and good luck with your business venture)

Dan, sorry if I misled you - it's my site.
The mods ARE more than just a PSU - the S/PDIF output is transformer
coupled amongst other things. I thought you might find the difference
in waveforms interesting, but unfortunately it can't tell you how
different they sound!
Yes the picture is a CAD
Wow, that's visual. (thanks) I wonder what mods they do. That might be a
power-supply mod, but it'd be great to know if it's more than that.
It'd be cool to see the SB3 waveform, and a waveform from a stock
sb2&sb3 with a hosfelt or elpac power brick.
edit: looking at their offering, they sure d
Maybe you are even better off with modified AND an external DAC

I'm mostly just going by past price history of modded units sold on
Audiogon or eBay. Its pretty rare to see a modded unit get even half

I'll make a response, but I expect others to chime in as I don't have
the full story on the digital volume issue...
You don't mention your pre-amp. Do you have one?
If you want to run direct from your Squeezebox to your amp with no
preamp (as some have found to be quite satisfactory) then you'll
