Yeh , the 518 does have flavours of dither , up and downsampling etc. I use a Z-sys Parametric Eq in the effects loop of my transporter sometimes , and have used a TACT. However these devices dont really claim to reduce jitter and most likely add more , however their effects on sonics are so many

Thats more like it Rodney, you use the digital effect loop for a purpose, digital eq and room compensation and other goodies, nice setup btw. It's cost benefit, as you said. Ted's original Q was about using the loop for nothing (as I see it ) -- Mnyb

I have used many of these devices. They do do one thing , and that is change the sonics. either you like what they do or don't - try one if you got one on hand. I found the Meridian 518 was one of the better units out there , but I run meridian speakers so there might be synergy. --

Makes more sense to me to upsample your music in non-realtime (can Audacity do this?), and use the Transporter 'properly'. This allows the potential for better upsampling, as you are not restricted by the machine's CPU speed, and eliminates all the jitter problems that other have mentioned.

It's a matter of context (in reply to rodney ), in this particular user case it's a bad idea, read the first post again (out from the TP and in again ). The TP is a clever work around of the problem clock signal extracted from s/pdif, combine the source and the DAC no spdif interface no problem.

The latest Beresford Dac (MK6/4) effectively upsamples to 24/96 before it leaves the SPDIF. Upgraded mine recently - big difference mainly noisefloor pretty much gone. -- Gazjam Gazjam's Profile:

Monarchy, among others, makes very good jitter reduction/upsampler boxes (i.e Monarchy DIp 4896 Upsampler) that go btween a transport and a DAC. In the case of the forementioned Monarchy one, it also upsamples to 24/96 if set accordingly. My question is this: Since the Transporter's digital out

You wouldn't want to do this, it would probably cause more jitter since the jitter as seen by the onboard DAC is lower than that of the SPDIF board. The DAC is also a delta-sigma style DAC and gets no improvement from upsampling. -- SuperQ

The latest versions of the TP firmware do allow for an external digital effects loop, so at first glance this could be done. I'm not sure, however, if it would work with an upsampler in the loop. If Sean or someone else doesn't pipe up and say yes or no, I have both a transporter, and an

Good point about the spdif interfaces being an unneccessary source of jitter. Duh! Guess I was just asking cuz I'll likely get a DIP 4896 Upsampler for my soon-to-modded Oppo (for digital hirez output of pcm'd SACD at 88.2k and of course DVD-A at 96k) and wondered if it would add any value in
