I have included below the full text from the GFA web site on their position on the
CASA proposals. It has some good points. Derek Ruddock's last email to this list
also had a number of issues with the CASA proposal that need to be addressed.
I'm hopeful that appropriate discussion on these ca

One weakness of the GFA paper is that it does not seem take into account the
fact that, irrespective of any license held, the Club is able to apply
whatever currency rules they see fit to fly each glider type in the
inventory. That is the situation now, and it would still be the situation
if a "C

This is not correct. I am running DOS
under Windows XP. You only need to setup autoexec.bat and config.sys files
under ‘Advanced’ on the Program tab under Properties.

The issue of the proposed CASA Recreational License requires
some degree of understanding before GFA members shout too loudly about
it. Before making any pronouncement one should look at the situation with
an open mind. It would be wise to consider if, A- Is it the thin end of the
wedge? B-
It was only recently that I became aware that Microsoft
Windows XP will not work with DOS. I dont know how this will affect those flight
recorders that use a DOS system. Think about it folks before you upgrade your
computers! Ron Baker.
I agree with Ken that many benefits would accrue from having an Australian
Gliding License.
To have a very positive and identifiable goal beyond first solo would
provide excellent motivation for many students. Motivation that is at
present obscured by a vague series of "mini goals" like completi
Back on May 2 on the GFA web site under "what's new", this matter was
reasonably explained for members to consider. Some time before this round
of debate. I do not find that much of the argument being put in this forum
offers much light or refutes satisfactorily the position the GFA is taking.

Why is it that the pro-argument uses worked examples and reason and
logic to justify their
position but those against just use FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt).
If there are genuine reasons why we shouldn't become licenced then let's
hear

Don't know that I'm complaining, but what's the deal with the new green
folder? My licence is a credit card type but my new medical goes in
this new green folder.
The guy in the pilot shop told me that everyone needed to have one and
when he'd sold his stock, you'd have to go to CASA to get it -

This statement tells us nothing. Please elaborate with some facts so we can

Yeh you need an endorsment to use the toilet there eh?
That club put me off gliding for 10 years!(And is the only organisation or
club that asked me to pay a joining fee twice-needless to say I did not
rejoin choosing to drive an extra 140km to fly)Thank god I went somewhere
else and progressed.I

Don't keep us in suspense Rolf,
What are all these disadvantages ?
On the face of it Ken's posting seems eminently sensible.

I'm surprised by the attitude of the GFA against the CASA license proposal.
This is particularly so as the Gliding community (and
consequently GFA) struggles to get new members and has trouble keeping
them.
One of the advantages of the CAS
