The CARD is one of those things that some clubs do and some don't. Comps are possibly a more important environment to do it in. A less than 15 second check to make sure that everything is in order prior to you launching, especially after you have been sitting on the grid for the last half hour, c

A few thoughts. What electric vario system are you using? Considering that you probably want to plug the polar into the vario for speed to fly cues, you can probably record digital outputs from the electric vario to a laptop or similar data recorder stashed in the cockpit. I recall an e-mail con

Electronic data collection is definitely the way to go. For best results you need your data gathering device to collect pitot and static air pressures (airspeed and height) and air temperature (density correction). Do not rely on GPS data as that will only give you ground speed. All you then nee

RE: [Aus-soaring] Polar Curve Test

2007-05-06 Thread Anthony Smith
Actually, if all that you are using the polar for is to plug the curve into your B50 (or equivalent vario that delivers speed to fly cues) then you don't need to calibrate much at all. If you use the data output from that vario (ie the data the vario is using itself to calculate speed to fly) to c

Except that was a 777 in the movie I think. The failure occurred at around 2.66% greater than what the designed it to fail at. (The structure needs to be tested to not fail at 150% of design limit load (this point is called ultimate load)) I am told that at Boeing, if it fails at greater than 4%,
