It depends on the NZ-AU path the provider uses, in my experience -
Sydney - Auckland:
1. Via Southern Cross - 23ms
2. Via TGA - 25ms
3. Via Hawaiki - 35ms
Auckland - Wellington adds about 10ms rtt
These are core network speeds, end user connectivity of course depends on the

From Auckland you're looking at an additional 15-25ms RTT for traffic to
Wellington/ChCh.
I'm at the top of the South Island and ping times to Google and Linode (Sydney)
through various carriers all average at about 45ms.
From equipment at a DC in Auckland the figure I get is 23ms.

Auckland to Sydney appears to be about 25ms
New Plymouth to Sydney appears about 40ms and New Plymouth to Perth on our
