on cust,var as well as bus layerthen how will i decide when to

Hi everybody!!
I am quite confused about the whole Axapta layer concept.
Can anybody explain the use and the purpose of each layer with an
example.If i am creating a table in say var layer and adding some
fields in bus layer(say) then a person accessing the usr layer can see
the changes.So in what
can I create a lookup in dialog? if yes then how??
say for eg. we hav two dialog field

Branch:
So when a region is selected, I want only those branches to appear in
the drop down which belong to that particular region.
Please help !!
