I have a Francisca De Andrade (b about 1710), wife of Jose de Mello, had a
son named Antonio de Mello born about 1734. I believe Francisca De Andrede
was from Santa Maria.
Any connection?

Hi, Leslie,
Oooh, I see you're in Salt Lake!
The nice thing about being in Salt Lake is having access to the Genealogical
Library. Now that would be nice. I live in Wisconsin and have to order all
the microfilms because so far there isn't any one else around here doing
research in the Azores.
Thanks very much Hermano, I have sent you an email.

Leslie,
I just returned from Salt Lake. I am working on the schedule to submit to
the FHL. The dates for the Azores genealogy class will be Wed, June 23,
2010 to Sat, Jun. 26, 2010 in Salt Lake, with part of the classes at the
Salt Lake Plaza Inn and part at the library. The library wants my ti
My late husband's great grandparents went over to the Hawaii Islands. I am
now in Salt Lake City. I do wish that I could go to that class. Maybe
there will be classes for the Azores here in Salt Lake City. Thank you,
Leslie

The name is definitely Quarenta.
Manuel's grandfather already carried that name and in Manuel's fathers baptism
even names him as "Quarenta" rather than de "Medeiros Quarenta". Chances are
that the name started out as a nickname (alcunha) and was ended up being
recorded as a surname
Hello all,
The surname "Quarenta" can be found on the CCA Lagoa, obits list for Parish
of Rozario.

Lisa,
Compounded names are different and are probably not connected to the
others. You'll trace your Silveira de Andrade for a couple of generations
and you will see it change, perhaps to just Silveira or just Andrade, or
maybe something completely different. In my research experience with my

You would need to find it coming to America first and then hope that a crew
list still exists. The New Bedford Free Public Library does have some
crews' lists online that can be accessed here:

Hi everyone,
I believe now that Emanuel may have joined a whaling ship called the
Tamerlane and gone somewhere to America. How could we find out where this
vessel may have landed in America and would there be a crews list somewhere?
Any help would be grateful. Thank you.
Kindest regards,
