Hi Lester,
I just looked at the record on the CCA site Page 59 number 705 4 Jun 1904
Jose Pedro Tavares son of Jose Pedro and Helena? I can't make the second
name of mother out. Single age 22. The rest is a bit fuzzy for me to make
out but it does say he is going to the US and I am not sure o
OK, so what year(s) does he give on the 1910, 1920? And the 1940 if they
ask about it.

Hi. I am researching Pedro Tavares born 1883 in Agua de Pau, San Miguel and
have been unable to find him in the passport files or ship passenger lists
that are available. According to the 1930 US Census, he arrived in the US
in 1904 (his wife provided that information to the census enumerator).
Lester,
I don't know that someone else could leave under someone else's name.
Only the port of Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel is online at this time. You
don't state where your ancestors were from. They could have sailed out of
Angra on Terceira or out of Horta on Faial.

Questions about passports:
1. Were passports required to leave the Azores?
2. I have been looking through the "Registo de Passaportes" for a person
who left the Azores in 1904-1905. If his name does not appear in the
register, can I assume that he left through other, unconventional means?

I am a distant cousin of Maria Felicia do Coracao de Jesus (1826-1860 or
later) and her descendants through my mother's line. I have attached a

all from Feteira. Unfortunately, I don't have any more info than you do on

others in this group. I thought I would start with this set of ancestors. My
