Hi Phyllis,
Presently there are no records on line for Porto Formoso, that is the bad
news, the good news is that there are several people on this list that are
researching that village and they may be able to help you. I would suggest
you post what information you have with names and dates

One of the birth records I am looking at on the NEPS site states the person's

pity or piety. Could someone share what it means in relation to a birth

Hi Deb,
If the preceding words are Nossa Senhora da + piedade, they are probably
referring to the parish of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our lady of Piety),
located in Ponta Garça, Villa Franco do Campo (or Villa Franca for short) in
São Miguel.
Here's a link to a photo of the inside:
Deb, there is also another parish of the same name on the Island of Pico.

Altino,
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, the only word preceding piedade is
born. Piedade isn't capitalized either.
Everyone else in this family group was born in Sao Mateus, Pico, so I'm
inclined to think it isn't a reference to the parish in Sao Miguel. I will
check it out
Altino,
THANKS!

Deb,
Piedade is a place in Pico. Without seeing the record, it's hard to say
what you are looking at.
Here are the online transcriptions from the NEPS site for Piedade, Pico:

Al Shirley, I show her parents as Amadeus Saboia and Maria Borgonha.
Maria is the daughter of Duke Philipi. I'm pretty sure I got this
information from an ancestry true and have no documentation to support it.

Hi,
Did you check another spelling for Sabuya? There are many Saboya in
Portugal and Brazil. I think is Margarida de Saboya and not Sabuya.

of Amadeus Saboia and Maria Borgonha who married and died in Milan, Italy.
Wife of van der Haegen and this other woman had similar names ... but that
