When I needed an obit from the San Jose paper I could not find any help in
obtaining one. I went to Sunnyvale to visit a friend in a nursing home and on
the way back to Sacramento, I stopped at one of their libraries and looked it
up on one of their machines. Only took a few minutes. I realize
You can always go to your local library and order the paper on microfilm.
Out library will order on interlibrary loan for 50 cents! You just have to
know what paper you want and for what timeframe.

I cannot find them in Genealogybank. I used to have better luck in California
with Newspaper archives at a library.

San Jose, in CA? The name Manuel de Paiva is of great interest to me since it
is the name on many of my relatives. So too, does the name Ermelinda de Jesus.

Thanks for responding. Yes, the parish is in S. Miguel, Azores. The
problem is that passport record and ship's manifest have conflicting
information. The Manifest not only shows a different place of origin for
Ermelinda it also added the surname Paiva. Everything else matches. I'm
