I have an ancestor from Vila Franca do Campo that married in August 1874.
His marriage record said that his father, Manuel Pimentel Andrade was 'away
in Brazil'. The CCA site has passport records starting at 1875 (of course
only one year AFTER the year I need to look up...) So CCA site is out.
Hi Matt H,
How about letting us know how far you've traced your family and how long
you've been working on your Portuguese lines?
If you've been at this awhile, you'll know that you DON'T have an unbroken
line of Cabrals. It'll change and be another surname.

It may be helpful to know some abbreviations commonly used in Portuguese

The link below is in Portuguese, but the images speak for themselves.

I just stumbled on this group today, hopefully i'm using it correctly...
My family are Cabrals from Lagoa, Sao Miguel, and after looking through
James H. Guill's History of the Azores, I am interested in finding the
Cabral Family armorial and any other family information that is available.

I have found pictures on Wikipedia. Or try Google Maps and Views. I was able to
print some nice views of Flamengos, Faial, from those sources.

Someone at Ancestry.com got really creative and used children's wood blocks

Fawn U,
There was one on Rootsweb. Last I heard, most posts were in the Portuguese
language, but I'm sure there are people who speak English. It's not a very
active list, though. http://goo.gl/2GMSJk
The process in Portugal (or France or Italy or anywhere in Europe) is the
same as the Azores.
Good Day,
Does anyone know of a yahoo group that helps to find records and give
guidance for ancestors who came from Portugal? My grandmother's
grandmother, (mother's mother) immigrated from Portugal I believe in the
early 1900s.
Thank you so much.

Hi Mike,
Piedade is near my home on Pico and has become one of my favorite villages.
It's a very vibrant and active town. Good grocery shopping, fish market and any
thing you might need for house, farm or whatever. It took it a while to grow on
me but now I've learned to appreciate it. I'm hap
