Hi Nancy, There are some groups of mtDNA that are uncommon. Especially if they are placed in an isolated situation as your U5. As for me on my mother’s (French Canadian)side it is W3a2. At this point all French Canadian W3a2 matches go to a single person that immigrated there around 1600. My

Hi Gayle, Yes, it's the same Josefa. Do you descend from her daughters down to you? In my case, my paternal grandmother, Maria Felizarda da Castro Cardoso Baptista, had 2 sons. I was able to test my dads brother for both Y and MT DNA and she was U5. Best to you,Nancy Jean From:

Thank you. Judi, my paternal and maternal family are from Capelas. I am as well. As far as we know when it comes to my great grand parents, it splits to other areas. I've been able to locate family in Candelaria. Since I don't know the names of my great grandparents, when I see records, I

Hi Rick, I didn't realize U5 was fairly uncommon in the Azores..it's an interesting MT DNA when I read about it. I posted this because I have so many Family Finder matches that seem to be from Pico. I thought maybe it would be easier to connect via the U5 line than just random pursuit. For
