I hope someone on this list has better software to clear up the record
below. The top record I am hoping is my 6-7 g grandparents marriage record.
It is dark and there are quite a few ink splotches. I see the date of 15
Jun 1698. I cannot see the grooms name, nor his mother's name. His fathers
Paul, I see this: Groom ? da Aruda fo Antonio da Aruda and Maria ? com
Isabel da Costa fa os? de Oliveira (deceased) And Anna da Costa.
It may also say (deceased) after Maria ? I would look for the obit for an
Oliveira married to Anna da Costa and a Maria married to Antonio da Aruda.
On
The marriage date is 15 Jun 1698 The groom is Antonio de Arruda son of Antonio
de Arruda and Maria Alves (dec) Married to Isabel da Costa daughter of Marcos
de Oliveira (dec) and Anna da Costa

I believe it is Trigueiro which is a Portuguese word. I learned this word
on the Faial passaporte listing as a skin color. It comes from trigo
(wheat) and means dark-complexion. Possibly wheat-colored, or the color of
someone who works in the sun (such as in wheat fields). I hadn't seen it
Ernesto do Canto extracted some marriages from Achada. He wrote this in
the late 1800s:
1698, 15 Jun
Groom:
Antonio d'Arruda, son of Antonio d'Arruda and Maria Alves (f - means she's
dead) (of Algarvia - both of them, I think)
Bride: Isabel da Costa, daughter of Marcos d'Oliveira (f - means he's
I know for sure my great, great grandfather was from Faial. The only DNA
sample I have is mine. I have the raw data. Is there a site available for
upload?? I also have a U4 marker which from what I understand is rare.
Thanks,
Robert

It is best to test the oldest generation. If the parent who has the Faial
ancestry is alive, test that person. If you have access to a sibling of the
grandparent generation, test that person. If not, you are it.
I don't know what company you tested with or approximate date you tested.
Or what
Canto's Index goes back only to the late 1680s and it's very fragmented.
It's what you see on CCA. He and Rodrigues did try to piece the fragments
together to figure out the names, but there are a lot of ... where they
couldn't read the names or dates. Hopefully, your ancestors came from
Hi, Cheri
Only my siblings and I are left in the family so that is all we have to
choose from. Since I am a close descendant of my grandfather who came from
Faial, I would be the only one left. I had my DNA tested a couple of years
ago through 23andme.com and took their standard test, which
Robert,
The only people eligible to transfer from 23 and Me are the people who
tested with the v3 chip that was used on tests sold between November 2010
and November 2013. There are a couple of ways to find out what chip was
used for your test other than simply the timeframe. One is size; v3 chip
If you have your lineage going back to Faial, you really need to be DNA
tested. The Azores DNA Project doesn't have that many people with Faial
ancestry testing.
And if you think that just because NEPS has most of it online so there's no
point in DNA testing, yes there is.

hi there,
I could use a fresh set of eyes to try to decipher these records. The top one
"Joaquin" belongs to my great, great grandfather and there are no parents
listed ...record no.31. I also noted that the records 32 and 33 are also void
of parents. I'm wondering if they are all related and
Nelia,
The three children are all espostos, children who were placed on the roda
soon after birth because the parent(s) could not take care of them. Joaquim
was number 3,748 baptized in the church.

I have a lot of family from Faial on my Mother’s side. Mostly de Faria and
Mattos, but a lot of other names as well. I have a lot of my family tested on
Ancestry and also on FTDNA. I’ve also uploaded all the DNA tests to GEDMATCH.
You can email directly and maybe I can help.

Judi,
Thank you so much!
That's so interesting...I've never heard that term before. Do you know if
these children were placed in an orphanage? It's interesting because
although their parents couldn't take care of them would there be any record
of their parents anywhere?
I find all of this so
if you have loaded your data to gedmatch it will have your chip type right
next to your name.
