Thanks so much JR!
No, I expressed myself poorly and ambiguously; I was indeed hoping to get
confirmation that the father's profession was "hortelão". Thank you so
much for your response.
And, baleeiro it is, then. Many thanks!

Ok misread what you needed. Yes, I agree, baleeiro- a whaler.

vegetables or fruit to sell.

I think I have got the father's profession, but would very much appreciate
a second opinion from a fresh set of eyes.
I am stumped on the godfather's profession; I think I can read the letters,
but I believe I may be missing a more likely answer than a misspelled
whaler. Any and
Thanks for posting! I greatly enjoyed reading the story.

Fascinating and worth
There seems to be many books on the German/Italian/Japanese emmigration. I
think they all hot footed it to South America during and after WWII.

Kathy,
I checked FamilySearch.org and came up with this book, don't really know if
it would help but you need to put it on your 'research log' for Salt Lake

Hi Dorene
I’m curious about where you would find Port of Entry record at RJ? My
husband’s great grandparents left Terceira for Rio de Janeiro. I have found
passports for themleaving Terceira and (hallelujah!) their marriage and birth
of Wayne’s grandfather in Rio. Would love to find out more.
It is usually the very last sentence before the signature(s). It is Latin for
"on the date stated above: era=date; ut=as; supra=above.
