I'm going off of what Joseph said. And in my research in Vila Franca, when
they said Maia, it meant the one on Sao Miguel. I haven't seen records in
Vila Franca where they reiterate Sao Miguel island over and over. They
weren't that worldly in the 1840s. They way that Joseph wrote what he found
There's a Maia on São Miguel. It's part of Ribeira Grande which is not
online, but I've found many family members actually listed on the Furnas
records. However, those don't start until the early 1800s. Prior to that,
I think it's just in the Ribeira Grande records.
On Monday, March 3,
Maia has its own records back to about 1674 for marriages. Furnas, before
keeping its own church records are kept in Maia. You may have to order film
from LDS, as they are not on-line.
