Thanks, Cheri and Nancy. Since I do not see Carmo anywhere else in the
line, I guess it is a middle name that can become a surname. So I will
watch for that. das Dores, that was a new one, but now I have seen it
twice, for unrelated ancestors.

The deBorba being the last name. I wasn't aware of the father's last name
not being used. Are these baptismal records? Or birth records?
