My grandfather was a "Mestre" in Vila Franca, as in Master Potter. So I think
the title was used for many professions.

A musician would make me VERY happy since musical ability seems to run in
my Mom’s side of the family, which is this line. WOW!

So if I understand correctly, then "mestre" can also be used as a title of
respect for a master craftsman, as in the apprentice and guild system, but
without specifying the craft? Thank you very much, Altino.

My mother was originally from Ginetes in São Miguel and had many Men win her
family with that profession you mentioned. From what she says, they were
Mason's. In particular stone Mason's who were used to make stone houses, walls

The word in front of the father’s name looks “Mestre” or Master.

I see the father's title as being "Mestre" , which might be "master" or
teacher. I'm away from home, so can't double check now but will try to confirm
when I get back.

We’re trying to decipher if the margin notes in the original image post are
regarding her marriage to Simão de Souza. The margin date is 1809 but the
marriage entry is 1811, unless I didn’t get that date correct. That’s why I
included it in the thread to get a second opinion.

Title of thread: Maria de Lima baptism. Image posted: A marriage.
I'm confused.

Did they marry in 1809?? If so, that is probably the date the "Bans" were
read, usually about 3 weeks before the actual marriage. The word before the
dad's name could be a title but I can't seem to read it! Sorry

Looking for help with what is written in the margin - it looks like it
could be her wedding to Simão de Souza but I’ve found that register entry
and the date doesn’t look like
