parents marriage records. I think I found the parents record from 1729 (top
right page):

Good work, John, I concur. I've never seen a "post script" to any marriage
record, where both participants were actually required to add a "signing
statement." *(I thought that practice was just for US Presidents)*. I think
I know how the church actually found out that the marriage was a fraud.
Actually it looks like the couple may have deliberately misled the priest:

I don't think this is the case because the bride's parents names are listed
in the record (Jose Homem da Costa and Maria da Costa). And there is no
Maria de Viveiros listed anywhere in the record, except in the written note
above the record. I think it is something else.

I didn't check the whole document to verify this but it seems the Priest
forgot to enter the bride's parents and the Note says he advises the bride
in the document Maria de Viveiros daugther of Joao Viveiros and of his wife
Maria Martins.

I would like some help with understanding the note above the marriage
record for Jose de Viveiros and Maria de Sao Jose. Since I don't read
Portuguese I was wondering if someone could tell me what it says. Is it
correcting/changing a name in the record? Is it the bride or the bride's
