I'd need to log into your DNA page to see exactly what you are talking
about.
In general, X match follows are particular inheritance pattern.
I'll start with a male. The 23rd chromosome is the sex chromosome. He got
XY - Y from dad (that makes him a man) and an X from mom. Mom is XX. She

Yeah, FTDNA knows that they are real good with delivering high quality DNA
results, but are lame at the interpretation. They are working on their
Learning Center, but I just use Google to find what I want. Their Learning
Center still says Beta, so they are working on it.

Same goes for me. Thanks Cheri!

Hi Cheri,
I don't know how you found this blog, but this is exactly what I was
looking for. I wish ftDNA would make this available by clicking on the
x-match column. If we did not have your expertise ftDNA would be very
frustrating to use.
Thanks again for your help,

Thank you for the lesson. It is easier for me because I have two pretty
diverse genetic pools... right?

I wasn't clear, as I've got a couple of questions in my inbox sent
personally to me. So if 2 people weren't clear, there's probably at least
20 of you that I confused!
mtDNA: This type of DNA is passed down by the mothers to all their
children. Only girls can grow up to be moms, so only they pass
Tish,
It depends.
Generally, the genetic genealogists suggest that the X match be AT LEAST 10
cMs on the X chromosome AND you also share DNA on some of the other
chromosomes. So if it meets those criteria, it can be used.
The X inheritance follows a specific pattern. I'll start with males
if you are a female, an x match to a male means you relate to the match
through his mother and it cannot be through your paternal grandfather. An
x match to a female means only that you are not related through the match's
paternal grandfather and your paternal grandfather... all the other lines
Is the x-match column in the ftDNA family finders of any significance? If
so, how is it used?
