the VM (and others) runs OK.
backups are as fast as their where before.
generation of other pages is also OK.
as I wrote before I doubled the amount of RAM, when 1024 was already working
fine for several month (and was more than enough) as it didn't affect
anything... page is still slow...

OK, let me try again:
the problem started regardless of the amount of TimeOut (setting) or any
other HTTPD setting the amount of RAM on the machine.
These settings worked perfectly fine (up until some unknown point):
Timeout 60
KeepAliveTimeout 15
StartServers 1
MinSpareServers1
MaxSpar
So it doesn't seem to be a Windows 7 issue. I tried this on a windows xp
machine with similar results. So here's what I noticed.
I can log into the machine with the simple command "/usr/bin/smbclient
computer\\C\$ -U domain\\backuppc" I seem to be able to traverse through
most directories l

But about the only functional difference between previous/current
settings is the total amount of RAM the processes will consume.

for testing purposes I raised the RAM from 1024 to 2048 (although even 1024
was way to much), and set back to the original settings and even rebooted.
this is what happens:
[Wed Apr 09 19:42:27 2014] [warn] [client X.X.X.X] Timeout waiting for
output from CGI script /usr/share/BackupPC/sbin/Backup
no, memory is not the problem.
as I said, it was working just fine (and fast) with the previous settings

Hey,
I'm running version 3.3.0 and up until recent everything was working fine
and pretty fast.
I am not sure if something changed, but whenever I try to access the Host
Summary page, I receive a gateway timed out page.
previous settings:
Timeout 60
KeepAliveTimeout 15
StartServers

FWIW, here's one set of exclude patterns I use:
'cDrive' => [
'/RECYCLER',
'
You're going down the right path. In order to backup win7 my exclusion list

can't share it right now.
