It is possible, but I don't think it's a good idea.
If the hardware dies or it is stolen, you'll end up having your backup stolen
too. You will loose both copies, the original and the backed up one.
And, of course, care should be taken to prevent people from outside to access
the backuppc cgi.
I asume you changed disks on the nas, and you had to manually replicate the
pool from the old storage without lvm support to the new one lvm based
If that is correct, my guess is that the pool or the cpool or both got
corrupted.
May that be the problem?

I do agree with the fact that any program must have a good documentation.
Without documentation, any work invested in developing any software is useless.
If no one can understand in an easy way what you've done, why did you do it?

I'm sorry if I've been rude in my last mail.
I've been using BackupPC for years and never thought the documentation was not
sufficiently good.
I understand there is no ssh, tar, rsync or samba documentation in backupPC's
project, but, is it really the place to look for that information?

I can't believe what i've read.
Go but whatever you like, and make sure it is a comercial software.
Please, don't forget to pay for the support, this is quite important
in your case. You need some you can call on the phone and tell them
they don't know what they're doing.

I am currently backing up BackupPc using rsync 3.0.6 to a USB2 drive
with no problems so far.
The total amount of data being backed up is about 300 Gb with 5M files.
The total time to sync all the BackupPc directories to the USB disk is
about 1 hour.
It's important to notice that the machine
he Xfer form of the CGI describing
what are you backing up would be great, and it'd be better have it on
a per share basis.
Thanks to all.

I use rsync 3.0.6 on my macs and it work perfectly and very stable and
reliable.
I recommend using 3.0.6 because of stability. 2.9.6 had a problem on
filesystems with too many hard links on it (memory allocation problem)
Check this out:
installing rsync 3.0.6 on a Mac Leopard (requires compi
