SX 10.4) using the exact same
syntax on the exact same revision of rsync, everything works as expected:
*suspect:~/bpc root# rsync -av [EMAIL PROTECTED]::docs .

*
So, I'm just not clear on what exactly is going on under the hood here that
is such an issue
As I
showed in my examples, the rsync command works great from an OSX
client, and in fact they're the same rsync version, 2.3.6.
I know what rsync and rsyncd are. I don't know how to get a more
recent version of rsync on a linux machine to talk nicely to the
bundled rsyncd on the backup
Hello,
I've been trying to figure out how to use the windows rsyncd package
from the backuppc site. Everything is installed fine, and if I
connect using rsync from my Mac laptop (OSX), rsync works as expected.
If, however, I connect from a linux based machine, it tries to use
ssh as the default
n I mount/unmount using shell
scripts.
This is most useful on laptops, however, where I may not be at home or
where the network is not set up - having a box that tries to mount those
file systems on every boot can get annoying.

H. I'd just used "samba", assuming regexp. Thanks, I'll put the

used, if they are doing explicit matches :-)

The core Samba protocol support seems to be intact and working. I can't
figure it out beyond that, I've never felt the need to get to know Samba
that well (and at this point I likely won't ever want to touch it this
much again).
I hope this helps someone save some time, as it's c
problem, I'll set up
rsync on winders before I'll go back to an earlier version of Samba.
Just found this too - looks like 3.0.23 was not the first affected version.

This S
Rsync is broken. Borked. Unworkable. Dysfunctional. My version is

I am going to try his solution today. I haven't had time so my internet
gateway isn't getting backed up, but it hardly ever changes (except when
yum breaks things!).

This is purely a "straw man" approach, entirely built using my limited
knowledge of Notes on the server side, and my *nix skills :-)
Notes "compacts" and updates indexes for databases, typically using
server agents, which (typically) run at night. If you have archiving -

I'm not a developer of BackupPC and I don't know anything about "VSS" at
this point, so I'll just step aside now and wait with you for other
opinions, Scott :-)
