I'm running BackupPC 3.0 on Debian Etch and on Debian Lenny. My machines have more RAM than you (1GB), but I haven't had any problems with them. Have you confirmed that there is actually a transfer taking place? You can either use iftop to monitor network traffic, or use "du -csh /var/lib/backup
