Hi,
I have the following backup strategy: I make a full backup once a month,
then from tuesday to thursday I make an incremental backup. On every
friday I make a differential backup. This backup is made in an external
hd (1.5Tera). On the next month, I repeat the process, but using another

What's the proper place to make suggestions for bacula?

Your problem is quite complex and I think it is not solvable in one
forum thread. You will need to split jobs in more Storages, one of them
can be the DVD. I advice not to have all backups in one file which grows
forever, you should setup some cykling policy. You will need to study
more about t
Hi people:
I'd like to get some suggestions from you about the best way to deal
with my backups managed with Bacula:
I'm running Bacula 3.0.2 with a unique Volume as a file disk, all
backups are stored under some directory in a huge file (now is about
400 GB of size). I have this configuration be
Regarding the bacula manual...
It's not very Linux specific and is really one of the better manuals I've
used for an open source project. Far better than many commercial manuals
imho. It's long because bacula has a lot of features--many of which a new
implementation won't use but may be desire

I think you may be thinking of a lab setup, but the original poster
seems to have been talking about putting bacula into production.
Understanding how to recompile is indeed very important. And actually
recompiling makes a lot of sense in a lab environment. It really is not
very difficult. Reco

We've all got opinions. I tend to go the other way, and use packaged
software. Compiling doesn't take THAT much more time, but it's certainly
not as easy as working with packages (if you know what you're doing that
is -- if you don't, it's probably 6 o

There is no 100% cut-and-dried answer here, but a couple thoughts:
- Regardless of what you do, I would not use a version older than, say,
2.2. Preferably use 2.4.
- You may want to stay with the version you have been testing. After
all, your test results may not apply to other versions.

Hi every:
I've been testing Bacula for more than six months. Right now my boss ask
to me for a suitable version for production. Wich version did yours
recommend me? I use Ubuntu Server and I was thinking to use the version
post in the repository for LTS (Ubuntu 8.04) release. This will be fine?

If your daily modified data can fit into an LTO3 (about 600GB in my
experience), may be you can set an incremental forever policy for your
schedule.
Usually restore requests on file servers refer to a file or directory,
so only one tape is necessary to accomplish the job. Of course, in case
of a d
Hi all...
I've a server with Bacula 2.4.4 that it's running a Samba share in Debian

I want to make a Tape Backup (LTO3) of the data in this Samba share (about
1TB) but I cannot change the tape for filling all the data in the night
because the office is closed. In the day, the samba share is

I have a vague memory of a similar problem on this list about 6-8 months ago -
if I remember it correctly Kern made a patched bextract that could unpack the
windows files - don't know if I'am correct, but you can try to search the

I have a couple of problems with bacula.
I used the latest fd on windows (1.38.4) and the debian packages on
linux (1.36.2-2sarge1) where my sd/director are. Even *after* reverting
to 1.36.3 on one windows PC, I cannot get a backup to restore (Zlib
Err). The backups were not marked "portable".

We drive our DLTs hard and they die regularly.

Hi,
At the place where I work we are planning to change parts of the
backup solution we use today because we have grown out of it...
We are planning to use Bacula to backup about 20 Windows servers to a
large disk storage and then use Legato Networker in a different
installation to clone the disk
